GRADUATE DEVELOPMENT
In the current environment of the "Gen -Y Knowledge Worker" with record low unemployment levels, attracting and retaining talent have surfaced as major issues for many organizations. As first impressions of an organisation can strongly influence retainment levels, a graduate program must be professionally designed and viewed by graduates as providing a pathway for their future with company.
There are many components to a successful graduate program - initial induction, professional & technical "on the job" training, personal development plans & mentoring/coaching opportunities, job rotations, project work etc. and each organization needs to develop it own unique blend of these elements. These are the features that attract graduates to organizations, however according to the Employability Skills for the Future Report (ACCI, 2002 - 2006) many graduates display skill gaps in the following areas:
COMMUNICATION TEAMWORK
SELF- AWARENESS/ MANAGEMENT PROBLEM SOLVING
PLANNING & ORGANISING
INITIATIVE & ENTERPRISE
These are core business skills and graduate development programs should play a key role in addressing these gaps! This is where we can help! At Corporate Team Solutions & Outdoor Training we will work with your organization to either design or modify an existing program to address these needs. A typical program sequence is:
STEP 1 Induction Program - along with an introduction to the organisation we focus on
- Raising self-awareness with personality profiling (TMP) and facilitator/peer feedback
- Developing interpersonal communication skills
- Equipping graduates with Teamwork & Problem solving skills using Team Management Wheel principles.
- Forming lasting relationships and professional networks with peers.
- Graduates identifying with the vision and culture of their employer organization.
STEP 2 Leadership Development - graduates are typically recruited for their potential to become leaders in the organization. Toward the end of their first year the focus shifts from learning to be an effective team member to becoming a leader of teams. Graduates experience an intensive three day "Leadership Journey" including:
- Introduction to Linking Leadership theory & team facilitation skills
- Expedition style bush journey to practice leadership, planning and problem solving skills
- Peer & facilitator feedback
- Building self-confidence by stretching their comfort zone in an unfamiliar environment.
STEP 3 Workplace Leadership Project - upon return from the Leadership Journey graduates identify with their manager a workplace project whereby they apply their leadership skills and give back to the organization. Project results are presented to the executive in the final 6 months of the two-year program.
